About Balanced Planet Yoga
A Space for All
A little sanctuary that feels like home.
From the very beginning, our mission was simple: create a place where everyone feels safe to set down whatever the day has handed them — and to root for one another on the way back up.
How BPY Began
Balanced Planet Yoga started as the shared dream of Kate Moats and Cheryl Van Sciver, who met in a hot yoga class in 2010. On paper they were an unlikely pair — a 23-year age gap and little in common at first glance. But a casual conversation after class revealed that those surface differences were exactly the spark of a brilliant friendship, and, in time, a business partnership neither of them saw coming.
They opened the studio's doors in 2015 and, year by year, grew BPY into a thriving community — one resilient enough to weather even a pandemic. In 2021, Kate moved to Phoenix and stepped away from day-to-day life at the studio. We were sad to see her go and wish her nothing but the best — and that transition opened the door for the next chapter.
A Mother-Daughter Partnership
When Kate moved on, Cheryl's daughter, Jenna Kelly, stepped in as studio co-owner — and BPY found a rare kind of leadership. Cheryl and Jenna don't just run a studio together; they carry the same vision through two generations, two perspectives, and one deep, unshakable bond.
That mother-daughter chemistry is BPY's quiet superpower. Cheryl brings the wisdom and heart that built this place; Jenna brings fresh energy and bold ideas — like the opening of our second adjoining space in April 2023. Where many partnerships negotiate, theirs simply flows. They finish each other's thoughts, challenge each other to grow, and lead from the same north star: love and serve everyone.
"It will never be lost on us what an honor it is to sit, stand, and celebrate with this community."
