What’s Your Dosha?
Whether we think about it or not, nutrition is a huge part of our lives in many ways. What we eat can affect our sleep, energy, skin, weight, hair, nails, bone strength, muscle strength, etc. Diving a little deeper into the affects of food, it can also take a huge part on mental stability. Getting to know your body will help you learn what to eat and when to eat it to keep yourself balanced. We will discuss how to combine nutritional focus and yoga together to keep the mind and body balanced by incorporating Ayurveda into our practice.

A Pregnant Yogi
I could let myself fall into the rut… I have gained 16 lbs. I seriously cannot remember a thing I don’t write down and it makes me feel incompetent. I drive by and miss my turns. I’m late. I’m uncomfortable. I can’t make my body do what it did. I’m emotional; I cry everyday- sometimes when I’m moved by happiness, and sometimes when I’m overwhelmed with sadness. Yesterday, I was talking to my friend that said, “If I get up in the morning and tell myself I am tired. Then, I’m tired. If I tell myself, I’m good, well then I’m good.” I realized that for the most part, I…

How do I pick a yoga mat?
Recently, we asked for your suggestions, and one of our yogis asked for our insight in choosing a yoga mat. Here is our take: While there are many options available, the vast majority of yoga mats work perfectly well for any style of yoga and personal preference plays a big role in ultimately choosing the mat that is right for you. That said, understanding the differences will help you select a mat that fits your personal needs because purchasing a good mat is going to cost you a few bucks. Yoga Mat Thickness and Weight Yoga mats range from super thin and compact travel styles that weigh a mere 2 lbs.…

A Yogi’s New Year Resolution
Here we are yogis – one week into 2016. I’ve been thinking long and hard about my goals and a resolution for 2016. We talk a lot about taking our lessons off the mat and out of the studio, and I really wanted to make that part of my intention for the new year. I shared with my class last night a conversation with my youngest daughter where she was going on and on about how stressed she was. I immediately shot back with, “well, you think your stressed, well then I am really stressed!” And back and forth we went in the conversation trying to argue who in fact was…

Why Do I Practice Yoga
guess I would have to go back to what was like life before yoga. Tired all the time. Busting out of my clothes and heading for the next size. My back hurt, my knees hurt. I couldn't touch my toes. My mind raced. I was filled with anxiety. I worried all the time. I thought I could control just about everything in my world and yet I was pretty sure that all my woes were someone else's fault. I was waiting for something to happen so I could be happier.

Reading List – The First Five
Reading has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I have parents that made reading important and who are still regular customers at their local library. Whenever I’m embarking on something new, trying to figure something out, or searching for some comfort, my habit is to find a good book and to start learning. Books provide us with knowledge and comfort. Often through reading, we find out we are not alone in our neuroses, our questions, our sense of humor, or our quest. Because a lot of people know this about me, I’m often asked for book recommendations, and I’ve had quite a few…

The Cost of Knowing Best
The cost of thinking you are right or you know best is probably more than you have thought about. The single biggest problem, I believe, with thinking that you are always right is that you stop listening. I bet that if you are one of those type of thinkers, even right now your mind is piping up loud and clear, “nope, I always listen – I’m just always right.” Then, your work if you are the person that believes they are always right, the one that is always interrupting, the first person to shout out their sage advice is to be quiet. It’s going to be super hard at…
